For more than two years Russia has been trying to take this city in order to advance further north and reach regional transportation hubs such as Kurakhove and Pokrovsk.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Military authorities in the eastern Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk urged civilians to speed up their evacuation Friday because the Russian army was quickly closing in on what has been one of Moscow’s key targets for months.

Local Russian command intends to make a line from Pokrovsk-Selydove-Kurakhove-Vuledar.

Moscow continues its offensive in the east of Ukraine, especially around Pokrovsk.

Oleksandr, a Ukrainian serviceman deployed with a combat unit says the town of Selydove is now the focal point of Russian offensive efforts in the Pokrovsk district.

Pokrovsk is an important logistical hub for the Ukrainian forces that supports their operations in Donetsk Oblast.
