Minneapolis park leaders on Wednesday said they would allow homeless residents to set up camp in local parks, a response to encampments in Powderhorn Park that have grown to more than 200 tents in recent days.

Powderhorn Park neighbors gathered Saturday morning in the park to make plans to collectively protect their blocks and homes for what may be coming in future days of unrest and rioting.

Powderhorn Park, where she’d walked Winnie several times a day in spring, became a homeless encampment.

Protesters and homeless advocates turned a community library building on its side to try to salvage it after people living in Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis were removed Aug. 14.
