After cutting the gap to 13 points last weekend in India, the Spaniard from Ducati satellite team Pramac also secured pole position for Sunday with a record lap at Motegi.

Pramac Racing's Jorge Martin has won the Qatar Grand Prix sprint to cut Francesco Bagnaia's world championship lead to just seven points.

But he ran out of time as the Pramac Racing rider held on for third place behind Martin and Bagnaia.

Pramac Racing's Martin, who started from 11th on the grid after crashing during qualifying, began well to take fifth position in the first lap, facing pressure from Marc Marquez, who eventually overtook him.

Italian Francesco Bagnaia was second for Pramac Ducati with Yamaha’s Spaniard Maverick Vinales third in a crash-strewn race over six laps around the virtual Italian Grand Prix circuit at Mugello.

The second row is occupied by Maverick Vinales (Yamaha), Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati-Pramac) and Takaaki Nakagami (Honda-LCR).

Danilo Petrucci finished fourth on the satellite Pramac Ducati, with Alvaro Bautista right behind him on a year-old Aspar Angel Nieto-team machine.
