Processionary

The oak processionary caterpillar is active in the Netherlands between April and August.

It is an annual summer problem in the Netherlands, but the number of complaints about the Oak Processionary moth caterpillars have soared this year, according to the specialist centre at Wageningen University which monitors the insects.

Caterpillars of the oak processionary moth were seen emerging from eggs in mid-April, according to the Forestry Commission, which oversees forests in England and Scotland.

Cedars are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including Pine Processionary and Turnip Moth (recorded on Deodar Cedar).
