A council officer stated that the on-going PSPO has been used effectively by council officers and Derbyshire Constabulary to reduce problems in Chesterfield town centre.

A pubic spaces protection order (PSPO) has been in place since 2020, and runs out this year, with the council set to approve the crackdown for another year.

The area has had many issues with car meetings over the years and last September Castle Point Council issued a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) to run for three years.

The authorities banned these events in the industrial park by way of a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) in 2016.

The only applicable provisions of the PSPO being those which are district-wide.

The PSPO was put in place in certain parts of the town to prohibit loitering in a manner which may bring about antisocial behaviour, street begging and the consumption of alcohol.

The PSPO will last for three years and organisations and individuals can apply for an exemption if they need to light a fire for a community event where they will be given written consent if they are able to meet the rules and regulations.

A City Council spokesperon: "“The council is seeking to renew an existing PSPO in respect of anti-social behaviour and considering new restrictions where anti-social behaviour is evident.

One of those in favour of the PSPO said: "I am sick and tired of car cruising on the A34, it really is affecting the way we are able to live within our house.

Owners were warned that they could face fines for failing to adhere to the PSPO.

Sefton councillors met at the Agenda for Licensing and Regulatory Committee on Monday March 11 to approve an extension to the existing PSPO after the consultation with residents finished on February 18.
