Mr C. Burgess of Breedon Southern Ltd has applied for planning permission to extend Denbigh Quarry, also known as Graig Quarry, on Graig Road on its western side.

The main junior races take in one loop of Penistone Hill, going round the trig and back into the quarry, before the final thigh-sapping climb out of the quarry and sprint to the finish.

The samples were found to be composed of 60% of the signatures matching that of the Twin Creek limestone being crushed by the Kilgore Quarry and potentially the I-80 south quarry in Parleys.

The development plans for the quarry itself also show that Luck Stone intends to build a 1.2-mile trail along Steven Creek, which forms the quarry site’s northern border.

The regulator said the quarry operator, Glenella Quarry Pty Ltd, and the workers involved were assisting with the investigation.

The stone from Farnhill Quarry was used for walling buildings whilst the stone from Strikes Quarry at Sutton-in-Craven was sought-after for windowsills, headers and door jambs.

Both South Quarry and Camstone Quarry are frequented by geology students, while the former serves as the one location in and around Arthur’s Seat where rock climbing is allowed - provided you obtain a permit of course.

Once you’re in the quarry, the route winds down an average of a 10% grade (expect as much as 18% in areas) through granite cliffs to the quarry floor.

The Walcott quarry produced such spectacular fossils because it was so close to the Stephen Formation — indeed the quarry has now been excavated to the very edge of the Cambrian cliff.
