Rathaus

The largest market is near the Rathaus where you’ll notice the aroma of roasting chestnuts and see stalls selling gifts, choirs singing and families ice skating together.

As a "temporary" measure the barely repaired Rathaus Schöneberg on Rudolph-Wilde-Platz became the city hall for West Berlin.

Berliners often call it simply Alex, referring to a larger neighbourhood stretching from Mollstraße in the northeast to Spandauer Straße and the Rotes Rathaus in the southwest.

Halfway across this, on an island, is the Rathaus main or town hall (rebuilt 1744-1756).

Main sights Landau's Rathausplatz Landau's large main square (Rathausplatz) is dominated by the town hall (Rathaus) and the market hall (Altes Kaufhaus).

Nevertheless, when the Nazi regime gained power decades after Hertz's death, his portrait was removed by them from its prominent position of honor in Hamburg's City Hall (Rathaus) because of his partly Jewish ethnic ancestry.
