Reasoner

A disgruntled Mr. Reasoner privately dismissed her hiring as a gimmick.

She and her family had stayed with friends and relatives for about half of their trip, and Ms. Reasoner said they had not taken an international trip last year.

For Peirce, rational inquiry implies presuppositions about truth and the real; to reason is to presuppose (and at least to hope), as a principle of the reasoner's self-regulation, that the real is discoverable and independent of our vagaries of opinion.

In pointing this out to the false reasoner, one is not just pointing out a tactical psychological misjudgment by the questioner.

The ability of the knowledge base to be updated and the reasoner to develop new inferences in a reasonable period of time.

This reasoner is called the classifier.

Without a knowledge of which things are self-explanatory and which are not, the reasoner is liable to find a question-begging argument persuasive.
