Ridging

Mid- level ridging over the islands is maintaining somewhat stable conditions with shallow moisture moving along the trade wind flow.

Upper ridging across Hawaii combined with a relatively dry environment will result in little rainfall expected over the next several days.

The hurricane is expected to take a turn toward due west (270 degrees) on Wednesday and Thursday as ridging to the north of the system strengthens.

Freshwater fluxes from the snow cover into the marine environment may be important, as the total flux is probably of the same magnitude as desalinated ridging and rubble areas of sea ice.

Once a region is within drought, feedback mechanisms such as local arid air, citation hot conditions which can promote warm core ridging, citation and minimal evapotranspiration can worsen drought conditions.
