A group of SaskPower workers recently received special recognition at the legislature – for their efforts in repairing one of Saskatchewan's largest power plants after it was knocked offline for months following a serious flood last summer.

Beginning this fall the Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre (Sask DLC) will partner with SaskPower to provide high school students and adults online fourth and fifth-class Power Engineering courses.

Minister responsible for SaskPower Dustin Duncan said the government does not have plans to seek another rate hike.

SaskPower has already partnered with GE Hitachi on the design, fuel-sourcing and fabrication for a BWRX-300 reactor, the type that was originally selected in 2022.

SaskPower has been ordered to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for violating workplace safety rules, but the victim won't receive any of the money.

Power will be shut off for rural customers in the Resort Village of Stoney Lake, south of the city of Humboldt and surrounding communities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, June 8.SaskPower said in a news release the outage is part of an effort to improv.

SaskPower has a goal of 50 per cent of power from renewable by 2030.

Duncan said two weeks ago he was told by SaskPower that it will have to come up with a modified or new program by the end of the calendar year, as the cap was expected to hit in November or December.

It’s an industry that’s growing like crazy and helps hit SaskPower’s emission goals,” Campbell said.

Manitoba Hydro has had help from Ontario’s Hydro One, Minnesota Power and SaskPower in its power restoration efforts.

SaskPower customers who save more renewable electricity than they consume will now have the opportunity to sell it back to the company.

The utility, in this case SaskPower, has no capital, maintenance or transmission costs for that power while also still receiving a monthly connection fee from solar customers.

From 10am-1pm, SaskPower will be conducting system maintenance in the area.

Roughly $115 million has been saved since 2015 through a combination of restraint and optimization activities, according to SaskPower.

SaskPower could potentially save a large portion of money if proposed changes to carbon pricing are approved.

SaskPower says it has been seeing a significant increase in fraudulent activity in the province.
