Chinese tech firm SenseTime recently unveiled its latest AI model, SenseNova 5.5.

Sensetime said its focus in the city is on education and it does not have any contracts with the Hong Kong government.

The Chinese A.I. companies behind the software include Yitu, Megvii, SenseTime, and CloudWalk, which are each valued at more than $1 billion.

The co-founder of China’s SenseTime Group Ltd. was visiting New York to encourage more collaboration with the US on artificial intelligence when he heard the news: The Trump administration had blacklisted his company.

At its core, the Allflex SenseTime Beef system is a detection product for cattle estrus and health.

SenseTime was founded in October 2014 by Prof. Tang Xiaoou, chair of the information engineering department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, along with 11 students researching computer vision and deep learning.

Two individuals—Jeffrey Ding, who researches AI in China at Oxford University, and a SenseTime partner in Southeast Asia who requested anonymity—say that figure is likely much higher.

Xu says that SenseTime’s first boon as a business arrived when a surge of peer-to-peer lending apps hit the market in China.
