Okello Chatrie, 27, was convicted and sentenced to 12 years in prison using Google Sensorvault data obtained by Virginia law enforcement officials via a geofence warrant.

Drawing on an enormous Google database called Sensorvault, they provide law enforcement with the opportunity to find suspects and witnesses using location data gleaned from user devices.

In many cases, authorities have obtained search warrants that require Google to turn over data from a database known as Sensorvault.
