Silty

Silty soil feels like flour, soft and smooth.

When there is enough moisture in silty soil, it is smooth and manageable to till.

Now it’s almost always brown and, even when at its clearest, is still too silty to see the bottom to greater depth.

Schmitt said the project will also address drainage coming off the roadway, as well as “mucking out” the silty area between the current Chamber Park and the site of the new park, to create an inlet that will be connected by a pedestrian bridge.

Clay soils also resist wind and water erosion better than silty and sandy soils, as the particles bond tightly to each other.

Most of the beaches consist of either grass, rocks, or the silty sand that also makes up most of the bottom of the lake.

The water was silty and bad tasting but it could be used if no other water was available.

Typical Puget Sound profiles of dense glacial till overlying permeable glacial outwash of gravels above an impermeable bed of silty clay may become unstable after periods of unusually wet weather and slump in landslides.

When the Nile floods it leaves a rich silty deposit which fertilizes the soil.
