Britain's Tim Peake has hung up his spacesuit, stepping down from Europe's astronaut corps to become an ambassador for space activities, the European Space Agency said on Friday.

He helped with the development of the spacesuit and backpack for the Apollo moon missions, Nasa said.

The AxEMU suit revealed at the Houston event leverages designs NASA developed for its Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit concept, a spacesuit the agency worked on internally before designing to shift to procuring suits as a service.

The Soyuz MS-22 was also carrying a damaged spacesuit that suffered a power malfunction during a spacewalk outside the ISS in August 2022, forcing cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev back into the space station.
