Among the beneficiaries of Chivayo’s generosity are sungura maestro Alick Macheso and dancehall artist Seh Calaz, who received vehicles as part of what Chivayo describes as his effort to empower the community.

TOP sungura musician and Chivaraidze Express frontman Liversy Matamba has given a breakdown of the songs on his forthcoming 15th album, Ndozvireva, to be released live on local radio on February 5 this year.

Creativity is now a serious deficiency since every sungura artiste – including some of the seasoned ones – wants to sound like BaSharo (Alick Macheso).

He frequently comes to Zimbabwe for a number of ventures, which include the ongoing recording of his debut sungura project.

His album is laden with good music that every sungura follower will treasure.

Sungura maestro Alick Macheso was in Australia for a tour recently and it seems his music is appreciated by people of all races judging by a video that has gone viral on social media.

After Mukanya’s Unity Day show, the town will welcome King of Sungura Alick Macheso on Christmas Eve; Jah Prayzah on December 28; and then close out the year with a dancehall fiesta headlined by Winky D and Tocky Vibes on December 31.

His habit of sitting outside has endeared him well with his neighbours as our conversation was constantly interrupted by passers-by who would constantly exchange greetings with the sungura musician.

What is needed for sungura to maintain its flair is to reinvent it, to create an authentic, modern-day sound that appeals to people of different music tastes.
