Tareck El Aissami, Venezuela’s Minister of Petroleum, resigned in a surprise move yesterday (March 20), amid a corruption probe into the country’s state-owned oil company, Petróleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA).

This week, it led to the resignation of the country's powerful oil minister, Tareck El Aissami, who had served the government for two decades.

Oil Minister Tareck El Aissami, for his part, pledged that diesel fuel, which is vital to industries and electric power plants, will still be subsidized “100%”.

On February 13, the Press Workers Syndicate and the non-profit Espacio Público reported the events to the Attorney General, Tareck William Saab.

In 2017, Tareck El Aissami, who was then Mr. Maduro’s vice president, was under the federal Drug Kingpin Act and his assets were frozen in the United States But surely Mr. El Aissami is not the only one who deserves a legal reckoning.

Tareck Zaidan El Aissami Maddah, Venezuela’s industry minister, was accused of evading the February 2017 sanctions by hiring U.S. companies to provide private jet services, including for a Feb. 23 return trip to Venezuela from Russia.

Minister Stef Blok signed an agreement with the Venezuelan vice president Tareck El Aissami in March which opened the borders between Venezuela and ABC islands.
