SIDNEY – The Sidney City Council honored telecommunicators and heard the 2022 police department report during its meeting on April 10.

Many 911 telecommunicators today rely on phone calls that provide limited information.

The second full week of April is recognized each year as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, bringing well deserved attention and recognition to the public safety dispatchers who are an invaluable part of every emergency response team.

It’s part of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, an event that began in California in 1981 and has gone international in the years since.

Today, Government Relations Minister Warren Kaeding officially proclaimed April 14-20, as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

Fire Department Emergency Telecommunicators are trained to provide assistance until the arrival of emergency medical services.

These highly trained professionals are your 9-1-1 dispatchers otherwise known as Telecommunicators.
