The customs officials suspecting the 40 feet containers to be trafficking contraband consignment by unscrupulous impor ters intercepted the cargo movement for physical examination.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the employees were not employed by Impossible Services and the company was fraudulently using people's identity documents to claim for normal UIF and Covid-19 TERS benefits without their knowledge.

The Covid-19 Ters, which is administered by the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), was introduced in March to provide income support to employees who have been temporarily or permanently sent home due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

The number of companies which have had their UIF Temporary Employer-Employee Scheme (TERS) applications processed has increased drastically compared to last week, said the UIF.
