Timbered

Old timbered houses will be much in evidence.

One of the first things you may notice about Lavenham, are the half-timbered houses painted in rich colours that are tightly-packed along the narrow streets of the village.

The half-timbered Court House, Rowlestone near Pontrilas was granted planning permission in 1999 so long as it housed a local worker in agriculture or in forestry, their widow or widower, and any dependants.

It’s one of the prettiest spots on the coast, with typically Basque red-and-white, half-timbered houses lining the seafront and the Pyrenees looming close.

The accommodation was exceptional, with the half-timbered bedroom large enough to have a massive stone fireplace and a giant, circular copper free-standing bath.

Specific vegetation management projects planned within the timbered portions of its service area include but are not limited to, Chandler Road, the Cromberg area, Spring Garden area, Graeagle, and Mabie/Delleker.

Half-timbered houses were easy to knock down and to move around during those times (a day was necessary to move it and a day to rebuild it in another place).

It is noted for its many half-timbered houses constructed from the 16th century through the 18th century.

Rouen is also noted for its surviving half-timbered buildings.

Slightly more elevated sections of the plains of the northern sections of Jackson Hole form forest islands with one such obvious example being Timbered Island.

The Doubs and Loue valleys, with their timbered houses perched on stilts in the river, and the high valley of Ain, are popular visitor areas.

The most common sort of buildings would have been roundhouses and rectangular timbered halls.
