In February 2022, the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), Northern Ireland’s largest unionist party, left the regional government.

The Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) retained its three seats, while the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) won six seats (down four), and the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) won five seats (up three).

However the and UUP will have to get together to agree a candidate in many unionist constituencies (especially East Londonderry and Lagan Valley) next time to avoid the disastrous loss of more unionist seats, particularly to Alliance.

Sadly, because of one parties' decision in this mandate we will not see a Unionist Mayor, which is extremely disappointing and disingenuous to the Unionist electorate of our city and district.

The unionist vote in the strongly pro-Union constituency will be split three ways as the Ulster Unionist Robbie Butler and the TUV’s Lorna Smyth are also standing.

Also every 12th July Unionist politicans march in the same Parades with “tributes” to Shankill Butchers and other Unionist terror parapenlia.

In 2008, the Conservative Party formed a pact with the Ulster Unionist Party to select joint candidates for European and House of Commons elections; this angered the DUP as by splitting the Unionist vote, republican parties will be elected in some areas.

In four of the five "Middle" South states, there was a unionist majority divided between Douglas and Bell in Virginia and Tennessee; in North Carolina and Arkansas, the unionist (Bell and Douglas) vote approached a majority.

A little under half of the Other Unionist vote was PUP and the rest was made up of Independents.

Alliance will certainly be hoping to pick up most of those nationalist transfers, but there are still likely to be 3 unionist seats at the end of the count.

Also don’t forget he is another one of these extreme Scots Tories – a rabid Unionist who would shut down the Scottish Parliament if given half a chance – all part of the “wrecking ball politics” these charlatans practise at Holyrood.

But because of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) boycott of the institutions there hasn't been a proper sitting of the assembly since 24 March 2022.

But casting Andy as an embittered unionist who hates all things Irish is well wide of the mark.
