Members shared their displeasure that pupils could have their education negatively affected when the newly built Rosehill High School in Wallyford would have the capacity to host the pupils.

Only a few hours after the raid, McLay and his associate were spotted in a bookmakers in Wallyford wearing watches taken from the Argyll Arcade.

The bus was subsequently stopped by police officers as it made its way through Wallyford and Brown, of Well Wynd, was arrested and charged with the assault on his girlfriend.

They said a reactive speed sign had been installed at one end of the road – the entrance to the village from the Wallyford and Inveresk direction – but not at the other, which takes motorists to and from the Midlothian town of Dalkeith.

Tranent, Wallyford and Macmerry ward councillor Lee-Anne Menzies said that the volume of cars in the town was “unacceptable” and believed introducing car parking fees would help.

Wallyford hosts its annual gala day on Saturday, with a variety of fun activities on offer.

Ahead of the camp, she said: “We are very happy to be able to continue our support for Wallyford Primary in this way, and we hope the children enjoy their outdoor adventures before they head off to secondary school after the summer.

The roads towards Prestonpans and Wallyford will be access-only during the work.
