Yakubets

In April 2018, Yakubets was in the process of obtaining a license to work with classified Russian information from the Russian spy agency, the FSB - the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.

Yakubets is alleged to have run Evil Corp since May 2009 from the basements of Moscow cafes.

A federal jury unsealed a 10-count indictment against alleged Russian hackers Maksim Yakubets and Igor Turashev on Thursday.

Authorities say Yakubets ran Evil Corp., a group of alleged cyber hackers who stole tens of millions of dollars from victims worldwide through phishing schemes.

Yakubets is alleged to have committed separate cyber crimes on behalf of the Russian government, working for Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB), the country's domestic intelligence agency.

Yakubets, who is known by his online name “aqua,” has been charged in two separate international computer and hacking bank fraud schemes that spanned from May 2009 to the present.
