Lopers

The Rangers (5-6) took on one of the Tigers’ conference rivals, the University of Nebraska Kearney Lopers (2-7), Friday night and came up short, 84-71.

With two fouls to give before the bonus, the Tigers forced the Lopers to run the clock down inside 10 seconds without taking a shot.

Finally, the seal broke as the Lopers turned a defensive rebound into a fast break with Kansas junior reserve post Elisa Backes converting a three-point play with 3:18 to play.

After the fumbled kickoff, the Lopers were able to score quickly on an eight-yard run by Luke Qunn.

It marked the Lopers first win in Francis G. Welch Stadium in 36 years.

Overall, the Lopers finished with 383 yards.

The “dog days” continue next Sat., Feb. 2 as the Tigers travel to Kearney to take on the 4-5 Nebraska-Kearney Lopers.

The Lopers led the first half with 11 shots to Missouri Western’s eight.

The Lopers scored 14 points in three different quarters, led 21-7 at the break and had seven different players run for at least 30 yards.

Three players scored in double-digits for the Lopers.

Left hander Brad Kinsey was cruising along as well but the Lopers final got to him in the fifth thanks to back-to-back walks and a single.

The Lopers begin the season at home on August 30th at 7pm against Missouri Southern.
